Buffalo NY Fishing Report – Observations from 08/12/2024 – 08/18/2024

Here’s our latest Buffalo NY fishing report:  It’s been a while, folks!  I hope you ‘ve been doing well and enjoying these last weeks of summer.  I was on a family vacation in the United Kingdom for nearly 2 weeks.  The day after we returned, we started the 2024 Summer Fishing Camp, which went from this past Monday through Friday.   I followed that up with fishing Saturday and Sunday (today).  Bottom line, I spent the past 7 days on the water so there’s much to discuss.  Keep reading for more details.

Days on the water: 7

Who we fished with: friends/clients

Where we fishedLake Erie, Lower Niagara, Lake Ontario

What we caught:  smallmouth bass, walleye, freshwater drum, steelhead, brown trout, king salmon

Tactics:  trolling worm harnesses, trolling spoons, drifting bait, jigging bucktails and blade baits

Detailed Reporting/Daily Observations

Weather Breakdown

08/12/2024 – 2024 Summer Fishing Camp – Day 1 – Fished Lake Erie out of Buffalo, NY.  It was rolling out there and the action was excellent.  This is just a small sample of the fish caught.

08/13/2024 – Day 2 of the 2024 Summer Fishing Camp.  We fished the Lower Niagara and Lake Ontario for bass, walleyes, brown trout, steelhead, and king salmon.  What a day!

08/14/2024 – Day 3 of the 2024 Summer Fishing Camp.  Once again, we fished the Lower Niagara and Lake Ontario for bass, walleyes, brown trout, steelhead, and king salmon.  It was even better than the day prior!

08/15/2024 – Day 4 of the 2024 Summer Fishing Camp.  3 boats fished Lake Ontario and 1 fished Lake Erie.  Once again – incredible sessions throughout!

08/16/2024 – Day 5 of the 2024 Summer Fishing Camp.  All boats closed the camp with a final session on Lake Erie.  A hard east wind kicked up – to some anglers, that’s noteworthy.  In my experience, I’ve had many banner sessions on Lake Erie during an east wind.  That didn’t happen on this day.  Fish were caught – good times had – but everyone was worn out after a huge week and happy to take it easy.

08/17/2024 – Fished Lake Ontario with Andrew from Louisana.  Unfortunately, I left my phone in the truck (like an idiot) and decided to leave it there and use Andrew’s phone for photos.  Bottom line, I have nothing to show for the day.  Browns and bass got caught – just like earlier in the week.

08/18/2024 – Fished Lake Ontario and the Lower Niagara with the Janish men.  We started fishing for browns – it was pickey and getting big out there.  So, we made our way to the bar and had a blast with smallmouth bass for a few hours to close out the day.

Seasonal Assessment/General Observations

On the Conditions

Hopefully the daily play-by-play above provided enough info for the week.  After extensive travel followed up by non-stop fishing, I need a little rest.  I’ll get back to my witty reporting next weekend.

Buffalo NY Fishing Report – Forecast for 08/19/2024 – 08/25/2024

Weather Breakdown

    Forecast Commentary

Monday and maybe Tuesday aside, the upcoming week looks excellent.  The only problem is, Monday will shuffle the deck and leave us wondering what’s going on.  After a huge north wind and a big drop in temperatures, the salmon, trout, and walleyes are going to move around.

I rescheduled my Monday trips, but I’m booked daily after that.  The plan is to fish bass on Tuesday, followed by walleye trips for the rest of the week.  I’m looking forward to figuring it out and playing a fresh hand.  I hope to see you out there.

I’m going to start calling all my regular clients any day now about fall bookings.  September is almost booked solid as is October.  November is getting there too.  If you’re interested in experiencing fall insanity, please give me a call asap to get on the calendar.

Stay healthy my friends – mentally and physically,

    Ryan
